Are you interested in serving the public interest by contributing to standards oversight in Canada? If so, this opportunity is for you.
The Reporting and Assurance Standards Oversight Council is an independent, volunteer body that oversees reporting and assurance standard setting in Canada.

The Opportunity

The Oversight Council seeks two new members. Appointments will be effective April 1, 2025, for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second term.

The Ideal Profiles

Candidates with one or more of the following experiences and attributes are particularly encouraged to apply:

  • Law professionals.
  • Individuals with relevant experience working in the energy sector, climate risk, and sustainability reporting.
  • Individuals with relevant experience working in the information technology sector.

We believe that having Oversight Council members with diverse backgrounds leads to better decisions and outcomes. We encourage applications from historically underrepresented communities in board positions, including women, Indigenous People, racialized persons, 2SLGBTQ+ persons, and persons with disabilities.

What to Expect

This role:

  • involves a time commitment of approximately 75 hours a year, including preparation and meeting time (excluding potential travel for meetings);
  • involves approximately four meetings per year, including two in-person meetings in Toronto and the others on a virtual platform; and
  • is volunteer, with travel and other relevant costs reimbursed.

In addition, please note the following:

  • Candidates are not required to hold a professional accounting designation.
  • The Oversight Council members serve in their personal capacity and not according to the views of any organization with which they are associated.
  • Interviews are expected to take place between October and December 2024. The Oversight Council aims to approve appointments in February 2025.
