About the Advisory Group

The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) established the Securities Regulations Advisory Group to provide advice to the AASB on matters that require in-depth knowledge of standards in the CPA Canada Handbook – Assurance and the securities regulatory environment.

Role & Responsibilities

The role and responsibilities of the Advisory Group include the following:

  • Assist the AASB in assessing securities regulatory developments that may impact the standards or other AASB initiatives and projects.
  • Provide input to the AASB on matters requiring in-depth knowledge of the interaction between standards and the securities regulatory environment including, if relevant, supporting the AASB in reviewing and responding to proposed securities regulations that may impact standards.

Meetings

The Advisory Group meets privately on an as-needed basis.

The results of the Advisory Group meetings serve as the basis for the agenda papers presented to the AASB when a relevant project is on its meeting agenda. 

Membership

The Advisory Group consists of:

  • 6 to 8 practitioners with expertise in standards and the securities regulatory environment from firms that are active in audits of reporting issuers/listed entities in Canada; and
  • 1 observer representing the Canadian Securities Administrators.
