SPEAKER: Are you struggling with an accounting issue? Would you like experts in Public Sector Accounting to weigh in on your issue? You should submit an issue to the Public Sector Accounting Discussion Group to discuss.

Why submit an issue for discussion? The group discusses accounting issues, reporting issues, and emerging issues in a public forum. Its members are experts that have significant experience in public sector accounting.

Questions may explore alternative interpretations of an accounting standard. Submissions may identify uncertainty in the application of the public sector accounting handbook. For example, if it isn't clear how a standard would apply to a particular scenario.

An issue might have significant implications for public sector reporting. Or there may be potential for significant inconsistencies arising from interpretation of the standard. The issue could be an emerging issue that would benefit from discussion in a public forum.

The PSA DG has some submission requirements. First, provide a summary of the issue in one or two sentences. Second, your submission should outline the sections from the public sector accounting handbook that are in question, why the identified sections of the handbook are a challenge to apply, what alternatives you have considered, and other relevant facts and circumstances.

And finally, a brief description of how the issue meets the group's agenda criteria. And your issue should be applicable to a broad range of entities. That means that it shouldn't be an issue that is so specific to your entity, that no other entity would have the issue.

Submissions are accepted up to eight weeks before a meeting. And all submissions are reviewed by the group's secretary, who works with you to finalize the issue for the group's discussion. That's it.

Do you feel better knowing that the PSA DG is here to help you with your accounting issues? Submit your issue to the PSA DG today. Learn more about submitting an issue to the PSA DG at frascanada.ca/psadg-submit-an-issue.
