Helen Bobiwash (Ninaa-toot-baakshkaagin miikaansaan) is Anishinabe Kwe from the Thessalon First Nation in Northern Ontario.
Her career includes working as an independent accountant with First Nations communities, Indigenous not-for-profit corporations, and government departments. She is devoted to supporting First Nations’ financial stewardship and reporting for the effective management and delivery programs and services essential to the communities. She is passionate about improving the well-being of Indigenous people and embraces sharing her perspectives on Indigenous reconciliation. She has a keen interest in governance over climate change and biodiversity impacts.
Helen contributes her experience and knowledge within Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Her volunteer work includes being on the Board of Directors for Health Sciences North—an academic health science centre in Northeastern Ontario, where she is Audit Committee Chair and Finance Committee Vice-chair—as well as for AFOA Canada and the AFOA Ontario Chapter. She serves on the Investment Committee of the Indigenous Growth Fund, a $153 million social impact fund.
Helen has been a member of the Public Sector Accounting Board Discussion Group since October 2019.
