What are the specific considerations when an EER assurance engagement includes reporting on future-oriented information?
EER reports may contain different forms of future-oriented subject matter information, such as:
- information about future conditions or outcomes, including forecasts and projections;
- information about future risks and opportunities, for example, those associated with the transition to a low-carbon economy; and
- information regarding the entity’s intentions or strategy.
Future-oriented information results from applying criteria to the underlying subject matter. The underlying subject matter (a future event, occurrence, or action) may be subject to greater uncertainty, and is generally evaluated with less precision than historical underlying subject matter(s).
Chapter 11, “Addressing Future-Oriented EER Information,” provides specific considerations for future-oriented EER information in:
- determining suitability of criteria;
- obtaining evidence;
- evaluating misstatements; and
- communicating in the assurance report.
