This summary of decisions of the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) has been prepared for information purposes only. Decisions reported are tentative and reflect only the current status of discussions on projects, which might change after further deliberations by the CSSB. CSSB Operations
The CSSB finalized its inaugural set of guiding principles, structures, and standard-setting due process contained within the following documents:
The Implementation Committee approved these documents as part of its transitional oversight role in February 2024.
Consultation on Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDSs) and Criteria for Modification Framework
March 13, 2024, began the 90-day comment period for the Exposure Drafts, “Proposed CSDS 1, General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information,” “Proposed CSDS 2, Climate-related Disclosures,” and the Consultation Paper, “Proposed Criteria for Modification Framework.”
The comment period ended on June 10, 2024. The CSSB anticipates that related Feedback Statements and Bases for Conclusions will be publicly available in Q4 of 2024.
Trust and Relationship Building with Indigenous Peoples
The CSSB approved and began a tailored 12-month multimodal and multidisciplinary educational program for Board members and staff to build competency in the distinct worldviews and cultures, histories, and social and governance models of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. The program uses a distinction and land-based approach.
The CSSB approved an internal “Guiding Principles and Values” document focused on reconciliation, reciprocity, and co-creativity with Indigenous Peoples. This document will support the development of a strategic pillar focused on respectful and authentic engagement with First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across all the Board’s work.
CSSB Strategic Planning
The CSSB has initiated a multi-year strategic plan. The Board anticipates consulting with interested and affected parties in early 2025.
CSSB Annual Plan
The CSSB is developing an annual plan process, which will be updated yearly to reflect:
- annual project priorities;
- resourcing and budget; and
- performance assessment.
The CSSB will publish the 2026 fiscal year Annual Plan on April 1, 2025.
