Proposed Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standard (CSDS) 1, General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information

The CSSB discussed key themes in feedback received on Question 3 of the Exposure Draft for CSDS 1:

Do you agree that the requirements in the following sections are appropriate for application in Canada? Please explain the rationale for your answer.

(a) Scope
(b) Conceptual Foundations
(c) Core Content
(d) General Requirements
(e) Judgments, Uncertainties and Errors
(f) Appendices A-E

Additionally, the CSSB discussed strategic outreach planning and concrete actions to progress on its commitment to meaningful engagement with Indigenous Peoples.

Feedback statement on the proposed CSDSs and the proposed Criteria for Modification Framework

The CSSB reviewed and provided detailed feedback on the draft feedback statement, which summarizes responses to the consultations for proposed CSDS 1, proposed CSDS 2, Climate-related Disclosures, and proposed Criteria for Modification Framework. The feedback statement will provide context for the subsequent Basis of Conclusions documents that will outline the Board’s final decision on the CSDSs. The feedback statement will be available by end of October 2024. The Basis for Conclusions documents will be available by mid-December 2024.

Scope 3 and greenhouse gas protocol

The CSSB engaged in two educational sessions and reviewed analysis on Scope 3 to prepare for the deliberations on Scope 3 during its meeting on September 11-12, 2024.

Although the CSSB reached some preliminary consensus, it did not make any final decisions regarding the standards.

Communications strategy

The CSSB formed a Communications Subcommittee consisting of three members who will meet regularly to discuss developing a communications plan to improve the transparency and frequency of its public communications.
