Want to help improve accounting standards for private sector not-for-profit organizations (NFPOs)?

Do you have in-depth knowledge of accounting standards and their application for private sector NFPOs? Do you regularly review or use the financial statements of NFPOs to make decisions?

If so, we have a great opportunity for you! The Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) is seeking new volunteer members for our Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee!

About the Committee

The Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee assists the AcSB by advising on improvements to accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations. The Committee also provides advice to the AcSB on managing the accounting standards for NFPOs, such as advising on the timing of changes to standards and the process of communicating changes with stakeholders.

Committee members are from across the country and have a variety of backgrounds. Members include preparers, users, and accounting practitioners involved with not-for-profit financial reporting.

The Committee aims to reflect the broad diversity of private sector NFPOs. Committee members are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of financial reporting by private sector NFPOs.

About the role

  • Committee members are expected to prepare for and participate in:
    • three to four two-to-three-hour meetings per year via video conference; and
    • one full-day in-person meeting per year that will take place in Toronto.
  • Membership is effective April 1, 2024, for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewing for a second term.
  • Out-of-pocket expenses, including travel costs, will be reimbursed.
  • The working language of the Committee is English.

To maintain a balance of member experience on the Committee, this year we are specifically seeking the following applicants:

  • users of NFPO financial statements, such as donors, grant-makers, government funders, or lenders;
  • preparers of NFPO financial statements for larger organizations; and
  • academics.
